JAKARTA, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) -- A magnitude-6.1 earthquake rocked North Sulawesi province in central part of Indonesia on Thursday evening, but was not potential for tsunami, an official of the meteorology and geophysics agency said.
The quake hit at 20:40 p.m. local time, with the epicenter located 160 km northwest of Melonguane of the province, and at a depth of 10 km under sea bed, the official in charge in the agency told Xinhua via phone.
"We did not issue a tsunami warning. It was not potential for it," he said.
Indonesia has been frequently hit by earthquakes as it sits on a quake-prone zone called "the Pacific Ring of Fire." Enditem
