BEIRUT, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) -- The Lebanese cabinet approved on Thursday the ministerial statement in preparation for a vote of confidence by the parliament next week, local Al Jadeed TV channel reported.

"The ministerial statement is the product of our work during 11 cabinet meetings which is different from the draft adopted by the previous cabinet," Lebanese Prime Minister Hassan Diab said.

Lebanese Minister of Information Manal Abdel Samad gave an overview of the ministerial statement following the cabinet meeting, saying that the main goal of this government is to face political, financial, economic and monetary crises in the country.

Abdel Samad said that Diab asked each minister to prepare a list of projects for his ministry to be discussed during the coming meetings with foreign investors.

"We aim at gaining the trust of people and the parliament," the minister said, adding that Lebanon will eventually regain the confidence of the international community when foreign countries notice the reforms that will take place and the seriousness of dealing with the different problems.

Diab was appointed on Dec. 19, 2019 by Lebanese parliament's majority to form the government after the resignation of former Prime Minister Saad Hariri's government.

Hariri's government resigned following the eruption of nationwide protests amid severe economic and financial crisis and restrictions by banks, preventing people from withdrawing their deposits and making transfers to foreign banks because of the shortage in foreign currency.

The main cause of Lebanon's crisis is the rise in public debt to alarming levels because of the failing policies of previous government. Enditem
