WASHINGTON -- U.S. President Donald Trump said Thursday that the United States had conducted a counterterrorism operation in Yemen that killed Qasim al-Rimi, a founder and the leader of al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP).
"The United States conducted a counterterrorism operation in Yemen that successfully eliminated Qasim al-Rimi, a founder and the leader of AQAP and a deputy to al-Qa'ida leader Ayman al-Zawahiri," said Trump in a statement released by the White House. (US-Al-Qaeda-Leader Death)

UNITED NATIONS -- A Chinese UN envoy on Thursday stressed that the terrorist groups in northwest Syria must be "resolutely crushed" in accordance with relevant Security Council resolutions and international law.
Addressing the Security Council, Wu Haitao, China's deputy permanent representative to the UN, said the complex situation in northwest Syria is both a security issue and a humanitarian issue, traceable to the root of the terrorist forces' control of the Idlib area. (UN-China-Syria-Terrorist)

LIMA -- As many as 25 people have died as a result of a gas tanker truck explosion in Peru's capital Lima two weeks ago, the Health Ministry said Thursday.
The death toll rose after two victims receiving treatment at different area hospitals succumbed to their injuries, mainly severe burns sustained after the truck burst into flames, and the fire spread to nearby buildings. (Peru-Blast-Death Toll)

MAPUTO -- Eleven illegal miners died as a result of the land subsidence in a ruby mine in the province of Cabo Delgado, northern Mozambique, authorities said Thursday.
