BUENOS AIRES, Feb. 7 (Xinhua) -- River Plate head coach Marcelo Gallardo could return to his team's bench this weekend after successful surgery to remove a kidney stone.
Gallardo was discharged on Friday, just a day after undergoing the operation at the Los Arcos clinic in Argentinian capital Buenos Aires.
"I have no reason to think otherwise," the 44-year-old told journalists when asked whether he would be in River's dugout for their visit to Union Santa Fe on Sunday. "I have today and tomorrow to recover and see how I progress."
"If I feel good this Saturday, I'll take charge of training and travel to Santa Fe."
Gallardo was admitted to hospital on Tuesday with severe abdominal pain and doctors decided to operate after his condition failed to improve with medication.
Despite his smooth recovery so far, Gallardo said he was wary to avoid strenuous activity, adding he must "take it easy".
River currently lead the Argentinian Superliga standings with 36 points from 18 matches, three points ahead of second-placed Boca Juniors. Enditem
