BANGKOK -- Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said on Sunday that a shooting rampage in northeastern Thailand has left 27 people dead, including the gunman, and 57 others injured.

He updated the death toll in the deadly mass shooting in which a frenzied soldier opened fire at shoppers at a shopping mall in the Nakorn Ratchasima city late Saturday.(Thailand-Shooting)

BAKU -- Azerbaijan started a snap parliamentary election on Sunday morning in a bid to renew its dissolved 125-member National Assembly.

More than 5.3 million registered voters are expected to cast their ballots. A record number of 1,314 candidates, of which 21 percent are women, are running for parliamentary seats. A total of 246 candidates were nominated by 19 political parties, including 122 by the ruling New Azerbaijan Party. (Azerbaijan-Parliamentary Elections)

SYDNEY -- An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 jolted off Papua New Guinea on Sunday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The quake, which occurred at 0604 GMT, was centered 122 km south of Kokopo with a depth of 31.3 km, said the USGS.(PNG-Earthquake) Enditem
