SINGAPORE -- Singapore Airshow 2020, Asia's largest aerospace and defense exhibition, kicked off here Tuesday at the Changi Exhibition Centre, with lesser exhibitors this year due to the outbreak of the 2019 novel coronavirus.

The biennial event was officially opened by Singapore's Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Minister for Transport, Khaw Boon Wan and Minister for Defence Ng Eng Hen. (Singapore-Airshow)

ISLAMABAD -- At least eight people were killed and five others injured on Tuesday after a multi-storey building collapsed in Muzaffargarh district of Pakistan's eastern Punjab province, local media reported.

HANOI -- Vietnam has reported an outbreak of A/H5N6 bird flu in suburban Hanoi, Vietnam News Agency reported on Tuesday.

The outbreak was spotted in Phu Nghia commune of Hanoi's suburban Chuong My district, when local authorities found that the flock of fowls were infected with the A/H5N6 strain of bird flu, the news agency quoted Hanoi's Department of Livestock and Animal Health as reporting.(Vietnam-Bird flu)

HONG KONG -- The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) Tuesday announced the development of a new system that can identify 30 to 40 infectious respiratory pathogens in one single test within an hour, including novel coronavirus and bird flu virus.

The system was developed by a research team led by Terence Lau Lok-ting, director of Innovation and Technology Development, and adjunct professor at the Department of Applied Biology and Chemical Technology of PolyU.(Hong Kong-Research)

DHAKA -- At least 15 people died after a boat packed with Rohingya refugees capsized in the Bay of Bengal close to Bangladesh's southeastern border with Myanmar, said an official on Tuesday.

Bangladesh Coast Guard Spokesman Lieutenant Hayat Ibna Siddique told Xinhua that 15 bodies have been recovered on Tuesday morning, 71 people have been rescued alive, and an unknown number of people were missing.(Bangladesh-Boat capsize) Enditem
