Kenya women's rugby team face acid test in inaugural Sevens Challenger Series

NAIROBI, Feb.12 (Xinhua) -- Kenya and hosts South Africa will represent the continent at the inaugural Rugby Sevens Challenger Series event for women from March 28-29 in Stellenbosch.
A total of 12 teams have been confirmed for the tournament from all six World Rugby regions. The winner of the tournament will earn their place as the coveted team gaining the core place on the World Rugby Sevens Series for the 2021 season.
"The Kenya women's national sevens team, the Lionesses, are among the 12 teams lined up to compete at the inaugural Sevens Challenger Series event for women," Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) said on Wednesday.
"The Lionesses have been pooled alongside Argentina, Belgium, China, Colombia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Papua New Guinea, Poland, Scotland and South Africa."
The 12 teams will be drawn into three pools of four teams that will compete for the top trophy in the final where the winner gains core team status in the 2021 World Sevens Series, replacing the bottom-placed core team at the end of this season.
