Afghan airstrikes kill 6 militants in southern Uruzgan province

TIRIN KOT, Afghanistan, Feb. 14 (Xinhua) -- Six militants have been confirmed dead in Afghanistan as fighting aircrafts struck a Taliban hideout outside Uruzgan's provincial capital Tirin Kot on Thursday, said an army statement Friday.

Acting on tip off, the sorties targeted a hideout of the Taliban insurgents in Khanaqa locality in the outskirt of Tirin Kot city on Thursday afternoon killing six armed militants on the spot and wounding five others, the statement said.

A number of arms and ammunitions of the insurgents including eight anti-vehicle mines were also destroyed during the raids, it added.

The Taliban outfit has yet to make comment. Enditem
