WASHINGTON -- China is sparing no effort to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus, a challenge to both China and the international community, by adhering to openness and transparency, Chinese Ambassador to the United States Cui Tiankai said.

"So we always have, as one of our basic principles, openness and transparency," Cui said in an interview with National Public Radio on Thursday. "We believe openness and transparency will give people more confidence, will give them more awareness about the virus, what the real risks are and how to prevent them."

DAR ES SALAAM -- Tanzanian Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa on Friday warned politicians to stop making misleading statements on the outbreak of the novel coronavirus in China.

"Politicians should stop making misleading statements on the virus that confuse members," said Majaliwa shortly after attending Friday prayers in the capital city of Dodoma.

WASHINGTON -- Americans for Free Trade, a coalition of more than 150 industry associations, has urged the Trump administration to remove all additional tariffs, as the China-U.S. phase-one economic and trade agreement takes effect on Friday.

"It's encouraging to see some of the Phase One Deal come to fruition. American businesses, farmers, consumers, and workers certainly need these (tariff) reductions, as they have been paying the price for these tariffs since the trade war began," Jonathan Gold, spokesperson for Americans for Free Trade, said in a statement on Friday.
