TOKYO -- Japan's economy shrank an annualized real 6.3 percent in the October-December quarter, the government said in a report on Monday.

MANILA -- A total of 1.74 million Chinese tourists visited the Philippines in 2019, a 38.58 percent increase from 2018, data from the Philippine Department of Tourism (DOT) showed on Monday.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth will stand at -0.5 to 1.5 percent in 2020, with growth expected to come in at around 0.5 percent, the mid-point of the forecast range, the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) announced in a report on Monday.

The ministry said that the Singapore economy grew by 0.7 percent in 2019, which was lower than the 3.4 percent growth recorded in 2018. (Singapore-Growth forecast)

KUNDUZ, Afghanistan -- Four militants were killed and four police officers and five militants were wounded in fresh clashes in Afghanistan's northern Kunduz province early on Monday, local police said.

"Militants waged an attack with assault rifles and machine guns on security checkpoints on western outskirts of provincial capital Kunduz city at dawn. The police personnel deployed at the checkpoints retaliated effectively, forcing the attackers to flee from the scene," Shir Mohammad Parsa from provincial police told Xinhua.
