BANGKOK -- Thailand's narcotics control agency on Monday announced it will be intensifying joint efforts with officials from other countries of the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) to suppress drug smugglers on planes coming from Africa.

The movement was necessary because West African drug syndicates still played important roles in smuggling cocaine to Thailand and other Southeast Asian nations, said Niyom Termsrisuk, Secretary-General of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB). (Thailand-Drug control)

KUALA LUMPUR -- The first Malaysian national who had tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) has recovered and been discharged from hospital, health officials said Monday.

The 41-year-old man was tested positive for the virus on Feb. 3 and was treated in an isolation ward, Malaysian Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad said in a statement. (Malaysia-COVID-19)

ISLAMABAD -- A suicide blast hit a police vehicle on Monday evening in Pakistan's southwest provincial capital Quetta, leaving eight persons dead and 19 others injured, officials said.

Spokesperson of the Quetta Civil Hospital Waseem Baig said that three bodies were brought to the hospital soon after the blast while five others succumbed to their injuries during treatment. (Pakistan-Suicide blast-Death)

TOKYO -- Japan's health ministry on Monday released guidance for medical consultations or treatment for people who may have contracted the novel coronavirus, trying to give these people an idea of when to seek advice from doctors.

According to the guidance, the people who have had a temperature of 37.5 C or higher for at least four days with no specific health issues are advised to call local authorities in charge of responding to the outbreak. (Japan-COVID-19) Enditem
