NAIROBI, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) -- The Kenyan women's volleyball will pitch camp in Slovenia for their preparations ahead of the Tokyo Olympic Games.

Head coach Paul Bitok said on Wednesday they have two options, either Turkey or Slovenia, for their preparations, and settled on Slovenia, the reigning European champions.

"There were discussions for us to pitch camp in Turkey. However, after consideration, we settled on Slovenia owing to the fact that they will be hosting other great nations like Canada, Australia, Croatia and several clubs from the USA," Bitok said on Wednesday.

Kenya is returning to the Olympics after 16 years having featured at the Athens Games in 2004. Though the country is yet to win a match at the Games, Bitok remains optimistic that facet of history will be scrapped when the curtains come down in Tokyo on August 9.

The team will be among the few disciplines from Kenya who will make maximum use of the one-month training camp in Kurume City, Japan in June. But Bitok will launch his training camp in Nairobi in April after the players have featured for their respective sides in the Africa Club Championships in Cairo.

"Our top players will have a tough workout during the African Club Championships in April which they will use as part of their preparations ahead of the full residential camp in Nairobi. We will then move to Slovenia and Japan respectively," Bitok added.

Kenya will be eyeing a quarterfinal slot having been placed in the same pool with hosts Japan, Serbia, South Korea, Brazil and the Dominican Republic. The top four teams in the group precede to the last eight level.

Kenya finished last in both Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004. Enditem
