FRANKFURT -- Eight people were killed in two shootings in the western German city of Hanau on Wednesday evening, local police have confirmed.
According to an earlier statement from the police, shots were fired at two different locations in Hanau around 10 p.m. local time (2100 GMT). A dark-colored vehicle fled the first crime scene. A large-scale search for the perpetrators is underway, police said. (Germany-Shooting-Deaths)

TOKYO -- Two Japanese passengers from the novel coronavirus-hit Diamond Princess cruise ship docked in Yokohama have died after being infected with the virus, government officials said Thursday.

NEW DELHI -- The death toll in Thursday's road mishap in south India's Tamil Nadu state has climbed up to 20, a local administration official told Xinhua over phone.
The mishap, involving a bus and a truck, happened at around 3:30 a.m. local time in Avinashi area of Tiruppur district of the state. One of the tyres of the bus burst, as a result of which the driver lost control and the vehicle rammed into a truck coming from the opposite direction. ASSADABAD, Afghanistan -- Four militants affiliated with Islamic State (IS) were confirmed dead as fighting planes struck the hardliner group's hideout in Chawkay district of the eastern Kunar province on Wednesday, said an army statement released here Thursday.
Acting on tip-off, the aircraft pounded the militants' hideout in Tangai area of the restive district on Wednesday afternoon, killing four insurgents on the spot, the statement said. (Afghanistan-IS-Raid) Enditem
