WASHINGTON, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- Second seed Milos Raonic of Canada survived some dicey moments before beating American player Steve Johnson to make semifinals of the Delray Beach ATP Open on Friday.
Raonic had to fight from one game down to level it at 3-3 in the opening set, but the Canadian star still needed an intense tie-break to seal the set at 7-6 (6). Raonic had a much easier time in the second set, breaking twice en route to a comfortable 6-3 victory.
Raonic will take on American fourth seed Reilly Opelka, who did not face break points in a 6-3, 6-4 win against South Korea's Kwon Soon-woo in the quarterfinals.
Elsewhere, Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka beat American wild card Brandon Nakashima 3-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4 in two hours and 26 minutes to make the last four.
Nishioka will next play sixth seed Ugo Humbert of France, who was efficient in a 6-1, 6-2 win against 2018 champion Frances Tiafoe of the United States. Enditem
