JAKARTA, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian triathlete Jauhari Johan defended his championship title in the elite men's category during an international triathlon championship in the country's South Sumatra province on Saturday.
Johan defeated other competitors from Europe and the Asian region during the 2020 Palembang International Triathlon Championship, which is part of the Indonesian Triathlon Series.
He took 24:05 in swimming, 1:02:43 in cycling, and 36:46 in running.
"I am not strong enough in swimming, because I am not a swimmer. But in cycling and running, I have advantages," said Johan, who won the sports category in a tournament held in the province last year.
The second position went to Australian triathlete Blake Kappler, who was faster than Johan in swimming, but beaten by the Indonesian triathlete in running.
Another Indonesian triathlete, M. Ahlulfirahman, posted third place in the elite men's category.
The elite men category was held on the first day for a 1,500m swimming race, a 40km cycling contest and a 10km running event.
On Sunday, the 2020 Plalembang International Triathlon will stage age group events, running from 17 years to over 60 years. Enditem
