SINGAPORE, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) -- Singapore announced Tuesday that all work pass holders with travel history to South Korea's Daegu City and Cheongdo County must obtain approval before they commence their journey to Singapore, in view of the surge in the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in South Korea.

Effective from 23:59 Feb. 26, work pass holders and their dependents with travel history to the Daegu city and Cheongdo County within the last 14 days and planning to enter or return to Singapore must first get approval from the Ministry of Manpower (MOM), regardless of their nationalities. The requirement apples to existing work pass holders currently out of Singapore and In-Principle Approval holders who have yet to enter Singapore, MOM said in a press release.

Moreover, all affected work pass holders will be placed on a mandatory 14-day Stay-Home Notice (SHN) upon their arrival in Singapore. Employers are required to apply for entry approval for their employees and declare to MOM that they have arranged for suitable premises to house these returning employees for the duration of their SHN.

Employers and work pass holders have a joint duty to ensure that the SHN is complied with, which asks the employees not to leave their places of residence and monitor their health closely and seek medical attention immediately if they develop any fever or symptoms of acute respiratory illness, such as cough or shortness, MOM said.

The measures are "to limit the risk that travelers from these affected regions pose to Singapore," MOM said. Enditem
