TUNIS, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) -- The German Development Bank (KfW) granted Tunisia a loan of 27.5 million euros (about 29.9 million U.S. dollars) to finish the Medjerda-Cap Bon Canal modernization project, Tunis Afrique Presse (TAP) agency reported Tuesday.

The project, which is part of the financial cooperation between Tunisia and Germany, aims to modernize the infrastructure and equipment for the Medjerda-Cap Bon Canal and respond to the growing needs of drinking and irrigation water in rural areas in the northeast of the country.

"Water from the Medjerda-Cap Bon Canal is used to irrigate 19,000 hectares of agricultural fields and provides drinking water for Grand Tunis, the Sahel zone and Sfax," reported TAP. Enditem
