YANGON, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) -- The air quality index (AQI) of Myanmar's Yangon Region has reached 102 on Wednesday at the hazardous level for a specific group, according to a release from the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology on Thursday.

From Feb. 1 to 25, the air quality index (AQI) ranged between 51 and 100 at the moderate stage that is still safe for health condition, according to daily data of Kabar-Aye seismological observatory.

On Wednesday, the air quality index (AQI) of Myanmar's Yangon Region reached risky stage for specific individuals such as elderly and children with weak resistance.

"Vehicle emissions and chemical pollution from factories account for significant portion of air population. Increasing traffic congestion led to lower air quality index yesterday," Kyaw Moe Oo, director general of Meteorology and Hydrology Department told Xinhua.

There are six types for the air quality index -- 0-50 is good, 51-100 is moderate, 101-150 is unhealthy for sensitive groups, 151-200 is unhealthy, 201-300 is very unhealthy and 301-500 is hazardous. Enditem
