COPENHAGEN, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) -- The Danish Health Authority confirmed the first case of novel coronavirus in Denmark in a press release on Thursday.

A man, after returning from a family ski trip in northern Italy, began to develop a cough and fever on Wednesday, and later tested positive for the virus, the statement said.

His wife and son were examined in an isolation room in Zealand University Hospital in the Danish city of Roskilde, and both tested negative.

As the man has a mild infection, he and his family were allowed to quarantine themselves at home.

"No chances are being taken. We use quarantine when needed," said Danish Health Minister Magnus Heunicke during a press conference, after the first case surfaced Thursday morning.

The minister added that the health authorities will seek to trace every person who may have had close contact with the infected man.

"The individual citizen of Denmark should not worry about this situation. It's not like the virus is out and spreading in Danish society. It's something we have discovered early on," said Director of the Danish Serum Institute Kaare Molbak at the brief press conference.

So far, 88 tests have been carried out in Denmark, with six more currently being underway. Enditem
