NAIROBI -- Kenyan flowers are transported directly to China again as China Southern Airlines on Wednesday resumed flights to Nairobi after a two-week hiatus over the outbreak of the novel coronavirus.

More than 1 ton of high quality plateau flowers from 10 local farms were put on board the plane of the airline on Wednesday night, said He Qinwen, a Nairobi-based Chinese entrepreneur who exports Kenyan products to China, on Thursday.

Local flower farmers have faced losses after cancellations of orders from Chinese companies due to the suspension of direct flights, said He, adding that the resumed direct flights would help local flower farmers who rely on the Chinese market. (Kenya-China-Coronavirus)

SAN FRANCISCO -- A federal judge in the U.S. state of Washington on Thursday ruled that U.S. President Donald Trump cannot divert funds for a U.S. submarine base in the state to build a wall along the U.S. southern border with Mexico.

Judge Barbara Rothstein in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington permanently blocked the Trump Administration's decision to "reprogram" funding for nearly 89 million U.S. dollars for Naval Base Kitsap, Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson said.

The funds were previously approved by Congress to build a pier and maintenance facility at the Bangor naval base, home to the U.S. Pacific Fleet's Trident ballistic submarines. (US-Trump-Border Wall)

NEW YORK -- The 21st century must be the century of women's equality, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said on Thursday evening, in a call to transform the world by ensuring equal participation for all.

Addressing the faculty and students at The New School, a university in New York City, the UN chief declared himself a proud feminist and called for men everywhere to support women's rights.

"Just as slavery and colonialism were a stain on previous centuries, women's inequality should shame us all in the 21st. Because it is not only unacceptable, it is stupid," he said. (UN-Guterres-Women Equality)
