BAGHDAD, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- Iraq on Friday announced a new case of the novel coronavirus disease in the capital Baghdad, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to eight.

A statement by the Iraqi Health Ministry confirmed the new coronavirus case of a 32-year-old Iraqi woman who returned earlier to Iraq from neighboring Iran.

After being admitted to a hospital in Baghdad, she was tested positive and transferred to the main quarantine hospital in the capital in accordance with the international procedures, the statement said.

The latest case is the second in Baghdad after the ministry announced on Thursday the first case of a young man who also returned from neighboring Iran.

Recently, the Iraqi authorities have been taking a series of precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus after cases were confirmed in the country. Enditem
