RIGA, March 3 (Xinhua) -- Latvia's first COVID-19 patient is being discharged after spending only one night in hospital as her condition has improved and she is no longer testing positive for the novel coronavirus, Baiba Rozentale, chief physician at the Latvian Infectious Diseases Center, said on public television Tuesday.
The woman, who returned to Latvia on Feb. 29 from a trip to Verona, Italy via Munich, Germany, was hospitalized together with her daughter on Monday after both became sick and the mother tested positive for the novel coronavirus. Her child's test result was negative.
Latvia's public television reported Monday night that the woman's symptoms were mild.
Rozentale said the woman and her daughter would be released on Tuesday as they are feeling much better now and repeated tests have come back negative. The patient did not receive any specific treatment at the hospital, Rozentale said.
After leaving the hospital, the woman and her daughter will be quarantined for 14 days at home under the supervision of her GP.
The Center for Disease Prevention and Control has the list of all 145 people aboard the Munich-Riga flight with the woman. Twenty-four were identified as having been in close contact with her. Eight of them are Latvian nationals. Enditem
