NAIROBI, March 6 (Xinhua) -- The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) is in discussion with local authorities and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on whether the country's 2021 AFCON qualifier against Comoros will be played as scheduled on March 25.

The development follows the directive by ministry of health postponing all conferences and meetings of international nature in the country for the next 30 days as caution over the COVID-19 outbreak.

"Football Kenya Federation is engaging both the Government of Kenya and CAF to consult over the future of continental assignments including the forthcoming AFCON qualifiers scheduled for March 25," FKF's Communications Director Ken Okaka told Xinhua on Friday.

Earlier on, the federation had announced that the national team head coach, Francis Kimanzi, had called up 16 local based players for two open camps ahead of the upcoming Comoros 2021 AFCON Qualifier.

The first was to run on March 10-11 with the second scheduled for March 16-17 in Nairobi.

Kimanzi was then expected to name foreign based players for residential training ahead of the back to back qualifiers against the islanders.

The local governing body added the call-ups would report for training pending the final decision on whether the game will go on or not.

This comes as CAF sent a statement to its members on the coronavirus outbreak that has continues to disrupt sporting activity across the world.

"CAF is following with great attention the evolution of the situation of this pandemic affecting our continent. Eight major African football countries have reported cases to date: Egypt, Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, Nigeria, Senegal, Cameroon and South Africa.

CAF has mandated the Medical Committee to monitor the evolution of this disease and to set up measures to protect the health of players and all actors of the game," CAF said.

"We are not extremely worried but remain vigilant with regards to future matches and tournaments such as the CAF Champions League, CAF Confederation Cup and the final tournament of the Total African Nations Championship (CHAN) scheduled to take place in Cameroon from April 4-25," it added. Enditem
