BAGHDAD, March 8 (Xinhua) -- Iraqi President Barham Salih on Sunday received a letter from his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah al-Sisi over Egypt's rights in the water of Nile River and the latest development regionally and internationally.

Salih received in his office Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, who conveyed al-Sisi's letter, and the two discussed Egypt's rights in the Nile water as Ethiopia is building a mega dam on the river, as well as cooperation between the two countries, said a statement by the media office of the presidency.

Salih confirmed Iraq's support to Egypt and its efforts "to protect its water rights in the issue of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam on the basis of international law, and in a manner that does not harm Egypt's interests and water security," according to the statement.

Egypt has a great concern as Ethipia has been building the dam on the Nile River. Egypt is worried that the mega dam will undermine its annual share of the Nile River water.

Earlier in the day, Shoukry arrived in Baghdad. Enditem
