Over 200 kg of "ice," stimulants seized in E. Myanmar

YANGON, March 9 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar authorities detained 217 kilograms of methamphetamine (ICE) and over 1.6 million of stimulants in Shan state, according to a release from the Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control (CCDAC) Monday.

Acting on a tip-off, the joint anti-narcotic police force seized 217 kilograms of ICE and over 1.6 million of stimulants from a car that was travelling to Kyaukse township, along with two suspects in Ywangan township on Sunday.

The township police filed a case against two suspects and further investigation is underway under the country's Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law, the release said.

On the same day, a total of 500 kilograms of raw opium were seized from a car that was travelling to Pekon township, along with one suspect in Pinlaung township of the same state.

According to a recent release issued by the President's Office, a total of 1,002 drug-related cases were registered across Myanmar while 1,544 suspects were charged in connection with the cases as of Feb. 29, since the formation of the Drug Activity Special Complaint Department in June, 2018.
