CAIRO, March 9 (Xinhua) -- Egypt announced that seven new cases were tested positive for COVID-19 inside Egypt, making the total number of confirmed cases to 55, the Health Ministry said in a statement on early Monday.

"The seven new cases included four foreigners and three Egyptians, one came from Saudi after performed the Ummrah and the other two were in direct contact with an Egyptian returned from Serbia lately," Egyptian Health Ministry's spokesman Khaled Megahed said.

Megahed added the 45 cases that were found in a Nile cruise from Aswan to Luxor have not carried any symptoms, noting "the cases that were tested positive have been transferred to a special hospital for isolation."

He added the first announced case, which was for a foreigner has been recovered completely, while the other two cases, a Canadian working in an oil company and an Egyptian who returned from Serbia through France, were still undergoing treatment. But the Egyptian coming from Serbia has seen little improvement.

Egypt reported on Sunday its first fatality from the novel coronavirus for a 60-year-old German tourist, who had arrived in the country seven days ago and was taken to hospital in the Red Sea resort of Hurghada.

Egyptian Minister of Health Hala Zayed said in late Feb. that China has actively carried out international cooperation in a scientific, rigorous and highly responsible manner, and Egypt highly appreciated this. Enditem
