Oman's sultan announces 10 decrees naming state officials

MUSCAT, March 9 (Xinhua) -- Sultan of Oman Haitham bin Tariq on Monday issued 10 new royal decrees naming some officials and new diplomats and ratifying international agreements.

According to an official statement broadcasted by the Omani TV today, a royal decree named Sayyid Shihab bin Tariq Al Said as deputy prime minister for defense affairs.

Another decree named Jamal al-Mousawi as secretary-general of the National Museum, and another one regarding appointments in the diplomatic corps.

Other palace decisions tackled the ratification of an Omani-Indian agreement on legal and judicial cooperation in civil and commercial matters, air transport protocol with Qatar, Oman's accession to the 1968 Vienna Road Traffic Agreement and another deal on air transport with the Czech Republic.

Sultan Haitham ascended to the throne in Oman on Jan. 11, succeeding Sultan Qaboos bin Said, who ruled the country for half a century and passed away on Jan. 10. Enditem
