ADDIS ABABA, March 13 (Xinhua) -- The Ethiopian Ministry of Health on Friday reported the country's first confirmed COVID-19 case after a 48-year-old Japanese national was tested positive for the virus in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.
Ethiopian Health Minister, Liya Tadesse, in a live-televised address to the nation, disclosed that the patient is in isolation, while other people who have come to immediate contact with the patient have been identified and are being quarantined.
The Japanese national, who arrived into Ethiopia on March 4 from Burkina Faso, has been quarantined at the Bole Chefa isolation center in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, it was reported.
Officials at the Ethiopian Ministry of Health and the Ethiopian Public Health Institute also confirmed that the patient is presently receiving medical care and at a stable condition.
Following the first confirmed COVID-19 case in the East African country, officials urge the public to take precautionary measures in order to contain the spread of the virus.
Ethiopia, Africa's second populous nation with an estimated 105 million total population, had already established a high-level National Ministerial Committee to lead and support the COVID-19 preparedness and response efforts. Enditem
