TUNIS, March 14 (Xinhua) -- The Tunisian health ministry announced on Saturday that the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the country has risen to 18.

"After 70 lab tests carried out on Saturday, two new cases of the virus were confirmed," said Nissaf Ben Alaya, director general of the National Observatory of New and Emerging Diseases, at a ministry press briefing in the capital Tunis.

The first new case, a 47-year-old Tunisian from the southern governorate of Tataouine, returned from France on Thursday, according to Ben Alaya.

The second case is a 71-year-old woman from Ariana Governorate in northern Tunisia, he said.

Half of the 18 confirmed cases are imported ones, the Tunisian official concluded, noting 4,617 people have been placed in quarantine. Enditem
