BRAZZAVILLE, March 16 (Xinhua) -- The Republic of the Congo on Monday toughened the measures to combat the coronavirus, including the suspension from March 19 of all flights from COVID-19 high-risk countries.

"The presentation of a negative COVID-19 test result, carried out by an approved institution, now accompanies any visa application for entry into the territory of the Republic of the Congo," said a statement issued here by Prime Minister Clement Mouamba.

The prime minister also announced the establishment of a fund to contain the spread of COVID-19 and to intensify controls at check points of entry by mobilizing additional health and security teams at land borders.

In addition, he suggested the postponement of non-essential travel to countries where the disease is rife, delay of all official missions abroad until further notice and the strengthening of hygiene measures in public places and private companies.

The Republic of the Congo confirmed the first case of coronavirus on March 14 in Brazzaville. Enditem
