2 killed, 5 injured in truck accident in western Myanmar

YANGON, March 17 (Xinhua) -- Two people were killed on the spot with five others injured in a truck overturned in Myanmar's Rakhine state, according to a release from the Home Affairs Ministry on Tuesday.

The accident took place in Toungup township on Monday morning.

Due to gear failure, a six-wheeled truck carrying eight people on board rolled backward while ascending a mountain.

The injured were sent to the Ma-Ei General Hospital in the township for treatment.

The truck driver who fled the scene was charged by the township police for negligent driving, the release said.

Meanwhile, another traffic collision involving a light truck and a trailer truck killed two people, with nine others injured on Mandalay-Monywa road in Chaung-U township of Sagaing region late Sunday.

Two seriously injured were sent to the Monywa General Hospital while the drivers of both vehicles were captured and filed a case for negligent driving under the country's Penal Code on Monday, the ministry's release added. Enditem
