TOKYO, March 18 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks advanced Wednesday morning as investor sentiment was bolstered by a planned stimulus package by the U.S. government aimed at cushioning the adverse economic effects of the coronavirus pandemic.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 296.80 points, or 1.74 percent, from Tuesday to 17,308.33.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 33.93 points, or 2.67 percent, at 1,302.39.
Chemical, marine transportation and precision instrument issues comprised those that gained the most by the morning break. Enditem
