Jordan says to seal off entrances to capital over coronavirus fear

AMMAN, March 18 (Xinhua) -- The Jordanian armed forces said on Wednesday that all entrances to the capital Amman will be sealed off starting Thursday as the number of coronavirus cases in the country has hit 52.

Only authorized personnel will be allowed to enter the capital, the army said in a statement carried by state-run Petra news agency.

Earlier in the day, Jordan's Tourism Ministry said in a statement that a total of 1,900 people who arrived in the country over the past two days were placed in quarantine in Dead Sea's hotels, while another 3,000 are staying in Amman's hotels.

Jordanian officials called on the public not to stock up on food, as the reserve is enough for around one year.
