TUNIS, March 18 (Xinhua) -- Tunisian Minister of Health Abdellatif Mekki on Wednesday confirmed that the first case of COVID-19 in Tunisia has been recovered.

"The case is a person from the governorate of Gafsa who was staying at Farhat Hashad Hospital in Sousse ... He left the hospital today after doing all the necessary analyses," said the minister in a statement broadcast by the Tunisian local radio station Mosaique FM.

According to the health ministry, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Tunisia has risen to 29.

By Tuesday, 7,479 people have been placed in quarantine, of whom 2,998 have completed the quarantine period.
