KINSHASA, March 20 (Xinhua) -- Four more people were tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday at a laboratory in Kinshasa, capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 18.

Minister of Health Eteni Longondo said Friday that all four patients are Congolese -- one had recently returned from France and was likely contaminated there, while the other three were infected in the DRC.

Late on Wednesday, President Felix Tshisekedi announced measures to restrict the spread of the pandemic, including a suspension of flights from all high-risk countries beginning Friday, strengthening of border security, and the quarantine of all air passengers potentially exposed to the virus.

Tshisekedi has also ordered the closure of schools and universities, as well as official and private higher institutes. A suspension of all public gatherings also began on Thursday, imposed for the next four weeks. Enditem
