CAIRO, March 20 (Xinhua) -- The Egyptian Health Ministry on Friday reported 29 new COVID-19 cases and one more death from the disease, raising the total number of confirmed cases to 285, including eight deaths.
The new cases included one foreigner and 28 Egyptians, who were in contact with previously announced cases or recently returned from abroad, said the ministry's spokesman Khaled Megahed in a statement.
The spokesman added that a 60-year-old Egyptian man, who recently returned from Italy, died from the COVID-19 infection.
Megahed revealed that the cases whose tests turned from positive to negative for COVID-19 rose to 60, while 11 cases, six foreigners and five Egyptians, including a physician and a nurse, have left isolation hospitals.
The number of the fully recovered who have been discharged from the quarantine hospital has risen to 39.
Egypt has been recently taking strict precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus, including temporary closure of schools and universities, suspending flights, reducing employees and sterilizing public transport vehicles, government offices, hotels and tourist attractions.
On Thursday, the Egyptian cabinet decided to temporarily close coffee shops, clubs, malls, restaurants and other entertainment places from early evening to early morning over coronavirus concerns. Enditem
