RAMALLAH, March 21 (Xinhua) -- Palestine confirmed a new case of COVID-19 on Saturday evening, bringing the total number of the infected Palestinians to 53.

Ibrahim Milhem, Palestinian government spokesman, said that the new case of the coronavirus is a female student who returned from Turkey last week.

Since her arrival, the student has stayed at home for quarantine awaiting the test results, said Milhem.

The patient was taken to the treatment center set up in the village of Turmus Ayya, near the West Bank city of Ramallah.

Palestinian authorities declared that out of the confirmed cases in the West Bank, 17 have recovered and were sent home Friday for a 14-day quarantine.

On March 5, the Palestinian Authority declared a state of emergency for one month right after the first COVID-19 case was discovered in the district of Bethlehem. Enditem
