BEIJING, March 24 (Xinhua) -- The Formula One Azerbaijan Grand Prix, originally planned to be held on June 7, has been postponed.
"The postponement was agreed upon after extensive discussions with Formula 1 as well as the FIA and the Government of the Azerbaijan Republic," the organizers announced on Monday in a statement.
Due to the continuing outbreak of COVID-19, the Azerbaijan Grand Prix becomes the eighth race of the year to be postponed or cancelled.
"This comes as a direct result of the ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic and has been based entirely on the expert guidance provided to us by the relevant authorities," added the statement.
So far, Grand Prix races scheduled for Bahrain, Vietnam, China, Netherlands and Spain have also been postponed while the Riviera showpiece in Monaco and the season-opening Australian race were cancelled. Enditem
