COPENHAGEN, March 23 (Xinhua) -- A donation of essential medical equipment to fight COVID-19 from China has become a hot topic among Danish netizens.

A cargo plane loaded with 500,000 masks, 50,000 test instruments and 5,000 protective suits is scheduled to land at Copenhagen Airport on Tuesday, local media reported on Monday.

"We hope that the donation will come out as soon as possible, where it is most needed in Denmark," Michael Bremerskov Jensen, department manager for international trade at Danish Chamber of Commerce (Dansk Erhverv), said on Twitter.

Protective masks, in particular, were beginning to become a scarce resource in Danish hospitals with regional health authorities sending the alarm that stocks would soon run out.

Danes took to social media like Twitter and Instagram to respond to the charitable donation on Monday evening.

"We should be humble and very grateful to our Chinese friends! Thank you very much!" Karsten Winther, a sales manager, posted.

Local media reported that the donation comes as part of a number of multinational "aid initiatives from the Alibaba Foundation and the Jack Ma Foundation to support the areas of the world most affected by the COVID-19 crisis." Enditem
