COLOMBO, March 24 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka's Health Ministry said on Tuesday that the number of COVID-19 infections had hit the 100 mark as 9 new patients were identified during the day.

In a statement, the Health Ministry said a majority of those identified were being treated at the National Infectious Disease Hospital on the outskirts of Colombo and the remaining were warded at the Welikanda Hospital in north central Sri Lanka.

The ministry said two patients had fully recovered and one had been discharged. The other was under observation and will likely be released in the coming days.

It further said 229 patients were under medical observation in the designated hospitals across the country, while over 11,000 were under quarantine at the quarantine centers and their homes.

Earlier in the day, the Health Ministry said over 300 people who had completed their quarantine at the Kandakadu Quarantine Center in North Central province after returning from Italy, had been released as they had shown no symptoms within the 14-day isolation period.

More are to be released in the coming days after completing their designated period.

Sri Lanka has imposed an indefinite curfew in the capital Colombo and its outskirts as the highest number of patients had been detected from Colombo, the Health Ministry said. Enditem
