MAPUTO, March 24 (Xinhua) -- The 64 bodies of Ethiopian migrants killed by asphyxiation in a container in Mozambique will be buried in the country, said authorities on Tuesday.

At least 64 migrants from Ethiopia died and another 14 survived in a container transported in Mozambique's northern province of Tete on Tuesday morning, local newspaper reported.

The truck driver is reportedly a Mozambican, and the vehicle illegally entered Mozambique from Malawi.

Filimao Suaze, spokesman for the Council of Ministers, told the press after an ordinary session that Mozambique has already initiated contact with the Ethiopian embassy in order to determine legal and diplomatic procedures to be taken on the tragedy.

"People who enter a territory without obeying legal procedures will be deported, and we must find out what would have failed in the migration process there," said Suaze, adding that the 14 survivors will be deported.

The spokesman said as for the deceased, there is no possibility of delaying their burial.

"As soon as all legal procedures are through, we will carry out the burials respectively," he said. Enditem
