KABUL -- Armed militants including suicide bombers attacked a temple in Afghanistan's Kabul on Wednesday with casualties feared, a spokesman for Interior Ministry Tareq Arian said.

According to the official, the armed militants sneaked into the temple in the first Police District of Kabul city at 7:45 a.m. local time and security forces in sharp reaction cordoned off the area and tried to clean the temple from the attacking insurgents. (Afghanistan-Militants-Temple Attack)

TOKYO -- Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe heard from the U.S. President Donald Trump during phone talks that the decision to postpone the Tokyo Olympics for one year was the right one, Japan's top government spokesperson said Wednesday.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga told a press conference after the call that Trump had described the move to delay the games amid the coronavirus pandemic as a "wise and great" decision.

BRASILIA -- Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro on Tuesday praised the longstanding Brazil-China friendship via Twitter following a phone conversation earlier in the day with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, on bilateral ties and the battle against COVID-19.

SYDNEY -- The Premier of the Aussie state of Western Australia Mark McGowan announced on Wednesday that 800 Australian cruise ship passengers would be quarantined on the Rottnest Island for two weeks in a bid to slow the spread of COVID-19 in the state.

WA recorded 30 new cases of COVID-19 Wednesday, bringing the state's total number to 205. McGowan said about one in four confirmed cases in WA had been linked to cruise ships.

The Vasco da Gama cruise ship carrying 800 Australians is due to arrive at Fremantle Port on Friday. There are 950 passengers and 550 crew in total, including 109 New Zealanders and 33 from Britain. (Australia-Cruise ship)

VIENNA -- The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) daily basket price increased to 26.53 U.S. dollars a barrel on Tuesday, up from 24.72 dollars on Monday, according to an OPEC statement.
