LUSAKA, March 26 (Xinhua) -- The number of COVID-19 cases in Zambia on Thursday rose to 16, local authorities said.

Minister of Health Chitalu Chilufya said the country has recorded four more cases from the 12 cases the country had recorded.

He said during a press briefing that three of the new cases are from people who came from Pakistan while the fourth victim got it locally by coming into contact with people who had travelled to Pakistan.

He said all the 16 people have been quarantined and were recuperating.

He said that the fact health authorities managed to pick the 16 shows that the country's surveillance system was effective.

He further urged citizens to observe the measures announced by the government aimed at preventing further spread of the pandemic. Enditem
