Sri Lanka says 2 new COVID-19 patients detected, 104 in total

COLOMBO, March 26 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka's Health Ministry on Thursday said that two new COVID-19 patients had been detected within the past 48 hours, bringing the total number of confirmed patients to 104 in the country, out of which seven had fully recovered and been discharged from hospital.

The Health Ministry in a statement said that a majority of those detected were receiving treatment at the National Infectious Disease hospital in the outskirts of the capital while over 200 were under observation in the designated hospitals across the island country.

Out of the total confirmed patients, four were discharged from hospital earlier Thursday while three others were discharged on Tuesday and Wednesday.

According to Health Ministry statistics, the highest number of COVID-19 patients have been detected from capital Colombo with 22 cases, while Kalutara and Gampaha, in the outskirts of Colombo, reported 14 cases and 10 cases respectively.

Sri Lanka's capital Colombo, Gampaha and Kalutara remain under an indefinite curfew to prevent the spread of the virus while curfew in the remaining areas was lifted for a few hours earlier in the day and re-imposed at 2:00 p.m. local time again.

The public has been banned from leaving their homes while the government has launched a program to deliver all essential items including food to doorsteps. Enditem
