Number of Burkina Faso's confirmed cases of COVID-19 rises to 180

OUAGADOUGOU, March 27 (Xinhua) -- Burkina Faso has registered 28 new positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of cases to 180.

"As of March 27, 28 more patients have tested positive for COVID-19. We have traced 785 peoples having close contact with patients and their test results will be carried out soon," Martial Ouedraogo, National coordinator of the response to the Coronavirus epidemic, said on Friday during a press conference.

Ouedraogo also announced that two new death cases and two new cured cases have been reported on Friday. So far, Burkina Faso's death cases and cured cases stood at nine and 12 respectively. The two recovered patients are medical team members.

Five ministers of the country, the education minister, territorial administration minister, foreign minister, mining minister and trade minister have tested positive for COVID-19. The U.S. ambassador to Burkina Faso tested positive on March 22.

The government on March 20 announced a curfew throughout the territory from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., and a closure of land, air and rail borders.

Burkina Faso reported its first confirmed COVID-19 case on March 9. Enditem
