BRAZZAVILLE, March 27 (Xinhua) -- The Republic of the Congo reported 15 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 19.

"It seems established that there are now local contaminations, the number of which remains to be determined," Thierry Moungalla, minister of communication and government spokesperson said.

"Given the gravity of the acceleration of the pandemic in the Congo, President Denis Sassou Nguesso will address the nation tomorrow," he added.

Following the confirmation of the first four cases of COVID-19 in the country, the Congolese government decided to close all land, river, sea and air borders.

The Central African country confirmed its first case of COVID-19 on March 14. Enditem
