FREETOWN, March 28 (Xinhua) -- Sierra Leone's President Julius Maada Bio has announced a closure of its land borders with Guinea and Liberia as part of the government's efforts to prevent the COVID-19.
The closure has taken effect from the midnight of Friday and will last for 30 days, the announcement said.
"However, the transportation of essential commodities into Sierra Leone through the land borders will continue under strict supervision," it said.
Sierra Leone is yet to record a single case of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The President commended the effort of all citizens for adhering to the government advisory and encouraged everyone to continue complying with all measures announced by the government.
He urged citizens to strongly avoid physical contact and practice social distancing at all social and public gatherings. Enditem
