TIRANA, March 28 (Xinhua) -- The Albanian government decided to strengthen measures on the movement of citizens as coronavirus has claimed 10 lives, Prime Minister Edi Rama announced on Saturday.

Via a video communication on social media, Rama said that households across the country will not be allowed to go out of their homes without authorization.

Starting from Monday, only one person per family in Albania can leave home for shopping or other necessities for one hour a day after having applied for an authorization.

Rama said that only by strengthening the measures, the country can reduce the loss of lives due to the coronavirus.

Citizens can apply for a movement authorization through the online platform called e-Albania or by sending a free text message with a phone number set by the government.

However, this authorization is not required for those who go to work and does not include the elderly, who are prohibited from going out.

According to the new decision, police forces will check if the citizens are authorized to move.

Part of the measures set by the government is also the restriction of all movement from 1 p.m. on Saturday to 5 a.m. on Monday, thus prohibiting all activity and movement on Sunday.

As of Saturday, Albanian Ministry of Health and Social Protection reported a total of 197 coronavirus infections, of which 74 are hospitalized. In the past 24 hours, two patients lost their lives, bringing the death toll to 10.

Meanwhile, a total of 33 patients are now cured, among them three doctors and three nurses. Enditem
