CANBERRA -- The Australian government has announced a billion Australian dollar funding package to support the most vulnerable Australians amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Health Minister Greg Hunt on Sunday announced the 1.1-billion-Australian dollar (about 678-million-U.S. dollar) package, which includes funding for mental health and domestic violence support, emergency food services and Medicare, Australia's universal health care system. GENEVA -- The Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) said Saturday that 750,000 workers, or 15 percent of the Swiss working population, have applied for partial unemployment, a means to obtain economic assistance from the government amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The rate climbs to 39 percent in the country's northern canton of Ticino, which borders Italy and was hit hardest by the pandemic in Switzerland, SECO said. (Switzerland-COVID-19)

NEW DELHI -- Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi Saturday announced setting up of an emergency relief fund to fight the outbreak of novel coronavirus in the country.
"Keeping in mind the need for having a dedicated national fund with the primary objective of dealing with any kind of emergency or distress situation, like posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, and to provide relief to the affected, a public charitable trust under the name of 'Prime Minister's Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund' (PM CARES Fund)' has been set up," a statement issued by Prime Minister's Office said.
