JERUSALEM, March 30 (Xinhua) -- Israeli researchers have developed an advanced device for quickly disinfecting rooms, especially in hospitals, as part of the fight against the novel coronavirus, Shamir Medical Center in central Israel reported Monday.

The new system was developed by the government-owned company Israel Aerospace Industry (IAI) in collaboration with the hospital. It is based on ultraviolet (UV) electromagnetic radiation technology.

IAI's aviation group gathered raw materials needed and built the system. The project was then transferred to Shamir hospital for further trials.

It is estimated that within a week, the system could be put into hospital operations.

The device may be used, for example, to disinfect work surfaces and dialysis machines between medical treatments.

According to the developers, the system can be installed on robots, so that the disinfection will be done automatically.

"In this way, a robot will be able to clean a large medical center," they noted. Enditem
